Who Can Participate in Cross Country? The Sport of Cross Country is a competitive team sport that is open for all students in grades 7 and 8 in the Bainbridge Island School District and affiliated schools. A great thing about cross country (abbreviated XC) is that everyone competes! Everyone runs the same course, and although the first 7 runners to finish are considered the scoring team, at every meet ALL eligible athletes get to participate. There are no cuts, and no bench to sit on and watch while others play!
What is the Schedule? Cross Country is offered in the spring (March 19 - May 24). Practices are held M-F from 3:34-4:45 PM. Monday practices will meet at the Picnic Shelter at Battle Point Park. We will meet at the WMS Track on Tuesday-Friday. Click here to see this season's calendar. **This schedule is subject to change.**
Once the competitive season starts, we generally race on Wednesdays. Middle school athletes race a variety of distances. However, the majority of our races will be 2.0 miles. The courses mostly run across grassy fields, wooded paths, and have a mixture of hills and flat ground. Some courses even include creek crossings and log jumps to make it interesting!
How do I Sign Up? Registration for Cross Country opens on 2/28. We are very excited to announce BISD athletics has partnered with FinalForms, an online forms and data management service. FinalForms allow you to complete and sign athletic participation forms for your students. The most exciting news is that FinalForms saves data from season-to-season and year-to-year, meaning that you will never need to enter the same information twice! FinalForms also pre-populates information wherever possible, for each of your students, saving you time.
Please register at: https://bainbridgeisland-wa.finalforms.com/dashboard and follow the prompts to create your account, create your students and sign your forms.
EACH ATHLETE MUST HAVE A CURRENT PHYSICAL ON FILE AND MUST PAY THE FOLLOWING FEES:

ASB Card: Online payment for the ASB card is $20 for the school year

Do You Need Help Paying These Fees? If your family needs assistance with these fees, please contact your child's counselor. No student will be turned away from participating in any school activity based on their ability to pay.
Are you a Multi-Sport Athlete? Cross-country (XC) attracts driven and talented people. Because of this, many of our athletes participate in more than one sport. I strongly believe that participating in multiple sports is beneficial to all middle school athletes. To help facilitate this, we encourage athletes to join XC even if they are actively participating in another sport. However, for the health/safety of the athlete and the cohesiveness of our team, an athlete must be able to commit to the minimum requirements below.
As a multi-sport athlete in cross-country, you are committing to . . .
-
Participating in the whole season from March 19 to May 24.
-
Attending cross-country 3 days a week (M, W, F). Practices are 3:45-4:45 pm.
-
Participating in 8 cross-country practices at the beginning of the season to be cleared to race.
-
Participating in all eligible cross country meets (usually Wednesdays) in the appropriate race.
-
Accessing the website to get the information missed on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
-
Tapering the week before and racing in the Championship race if you qualify.
If the above commitments work for you, I encourage you to join the WMS XC team.
