Katie Brase
Hello x̌alilc Families!

My name is Katie Brase and I’m happy to be starting my 9th year as a school counselor and my 4th year at x̌alilc. Via lessons, small group work, and one-on-one sessions, I am honored to play a part in helping all students develop positive social & emotional skills. I also work closely with caretakers, so please reach out if you have any questions/needs.

From time to time I’ll share resources and information on specific counseling related topics. Additionally, I may highlight school-wide SEL (social emotional learning) efforts.

One thing that I would like to spotlight today, is the kick-off of our first of 9 character traits that we will focus on as a school body: the character trait of RESPECT. Like last year we will utilize an evidence based SEL curriculum called PurposeFull People.

We love when families partner with us by focusing on the same trait on the home-front.

One way to think about respect is “seeing value in all people and things & treating them with care.” Many people feel respected in different ways. We hope you’re inspired to have more discussions with your family about what respect means to you and how you can practice it together!

Very Warmly,

Katie Brase

Sheila Picture Day
School Pictures - Wednesday, September 25
Get Ready for Picture Day!

School photos are the morning of Wednesday, September 25th!

Please read the x̌alilc (Halilts) Picture Day Flyer for information regarding school photos and online ordering.

Preparing for school photos
The most important part is to keep it simple!
  • Do NOT wear green
  • Wear clothes your student feels comfortable in and makes them feel good
  • Choose solid colors or simple patterns

Jostens’ makes picture ordering easy.
  • This year families will be emailed a link from Jostens to order pictures via the Jostens website.
  • x̌alilc (Halilts) Event Code is FE167624.
  • Preview your pictures before you buy
  • Choose your background
  • Photos ship directly to home
Picture retakes will be on Thursday, October 24th.

This is Miss Sheila's second grade school picture - and one of her all time favorites!

Harvest Fair

PTO
Harvest Festival
The Halilts PTO is hosting our first ever after school Harvest Festival!

Join us for this free family event as we celebrate the harvest and welcome the start of the new school year. This event is open to all Halilts families on September 27 from 4:30-6pm.

We will have fun hands-on learning stations, along with pumpkin painting and a photo booth outside while BISD Food and Nutrition services will provide a limited harvest menu in the commons! Our menu features items inspired by our own school garden, and ingredients will be sourced from local farms--like Suyematsu farm down the street!

We will have:
  • Locally sourced and crafted squash soup, focaccia bread and apple cider for the first 200 people!
  • Pumpkin face painting!
  • Harvest themed photo booth!
  • Grain grinding (kids will be able to actually grind wheat berries into flour!)
  • Mini pumpkin painting for the first 150 kids!
Help out for a short shift at the (x̌alilc) Harvest Festival by signing up here!

Join us and kick off the season of fall fun!
