NATURE & THE BOOK AT BLOEDEL RESERVE
March 4-April 14 at Bloedel Reserve, 7571 NE Dolphin Drive, Open Tuesday – Sunday, 10 AM-4 PM; last entry is 90 minutes before closing. Access to the exhibition is included in the admission price. Bloedel Reserve is pleased to present “Nature and the Book: 2025”, a compelling exhibition showcasing the work of artists whose creative practices are deeply inspired by the natural world. This exhibition highlights the dynamic intersection between nature, art, and the printed page, exploring themes of sustainability, climate change, and the inherent beauty found in the environment.
GUIDED GARDEN WALKS WITH KIDIMU & BLOEDEL RESERVE
Join KiDiMu for guided garden walks at Bloedel Reserve each month! Meet in the North Parking Lot at the Reserve at 2:50 PM; walks begin at 3 PM and last for 1 hour. YESC ENVIRONMENTAL SYMPOSIUM- PRESENTED BY THE YMCA
March 28 from 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at Mary Gates Hall, University of Washington (1851 NE Grant Ln, Seattle, WA 98105). The Symposium is an opportunity for high school students to engage in hands-on workshops with environmental experts and teens from around Puget Sound. Workshop topics include environmental justice, waste reduction, water quality and more! Youth will be networking with passionate peers and adults as well as gaining tools to create real, positive change for their communities. Lunch is provided, with vegetarian options available. There will also be a free raffle of outdoor and environmental prizes. There is no cost for this event, but registration is required and space is limited.
MEET THE ARTIST: YOUNG KIM
March 29 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. or April 19 from 2:30-4:30 p.m.at BIMA, 550 Winslow Way East. Free. Young Ok Kim was born in North Korea and emigrated to Busan, South Korea, just before the Korean War broke out. She earned her pharmacy degree from Duk Sung University and went on to run her own pharmacy in Seoul before eventually moving to the United States. Arriving in the U.S. in the 1970s, Young Ok faced a strong societal push for assimilation, but she remained deeply proud of her Korean heritage, which she shared with her children, friends, and colleagues. It was with this same spirit of cultural pride that she discovered and began to teach traditional Korean hanjicraft — a delicate paper craft that uses mulberry bark paper to create everyday items.
MARCH 30th COMMEMORATION
Sunday, March 30th at 11 a.m. at the Japanese American Exclusion Memorial, 4195 Eagle Harbor Drive. Free. Complimentary shuttle from 9:30 a.m. to 1 p.m from Hyla and the American Legion. (On-site parking is reserved for seniors, survivors, and people with disabilities.) The ceremony commemorates the date in 1942 that 276 Bainbridge Japanese Americans were forcibly removed from their home and imprisoned for three years. We remember them, and tell their stories. One of our keynote speakers is Debra Grindeland, math teacher at Woodward MS, who will address our theme. "A Place to Call Home". The other speaker is a long-time resident, Karen Bierle, who played a part in welcoming kids back to the island. Please bring your own chair. Thank you to a COBI cultural grant and our many donors.

KIDS’ WALK: WHAT’S THE BUZZ?
April 9 from 10:30 a.m. to noon at Bloedel Reserve, 7571 NE Dolphin Drive. $15 for members, $20 for non-members. What’s the Buzz is a discovery learning walk for kids about bees and flower structures. Spring Break is the perfect time for a fun exploration of the wonders of pollinators and how they do it on the Reserve. Led by Certified Teacher and Bloedel Reserve Horticulturist Ann Mackey, parents and caregivers may accompany their child or enjoy a walk on their own while Ann leads this special Next Generation Science Standards-aligned nature and science tour for 2nd- 4th graders (ages 9-11).What’s the buzz?
