Description

All school districts that participate in the National School Lunch Program must establish a Wellness Committee to review and revise the local Wellness Policy every three years. This committee will meet throughout the 2024-2025 school year to ensure compliance with BISD Policy & Procedure 6700. In addition to the responsibilities listed below (Procedure 6700), the Wellness Committee will provide input on the following topics:

  • Nutrition
  • Recess and Physical Activity
  • Wellness
  • Physical Education

The Distrct’s Wellness Committee will be comprised of staff, parent/guardian, and community representatives and will advise in the implementation of the district-wide nutrition and physical fitness procedures. The committee will also meet at least twice per year to track the efficacy of these procedures and make recommendations as necessary. The responsibilities of the committee include, but are not limited to, monitoring compliance for the following:

  • One or more school officials at each school are identified to ensure compliance with the Wellness Policy 6700 and Procedure 6700P;
  • Staff, parents/guardians, and community members are notified of their ability to participate on the Wellness Committee;
  • An annual report is developed and shared with the public;
  • A process is used to compare current policy and procedures to model wellness policies and procedures every three years;
  • Food and beverage marketing on district sites meet the smart snacks standards
