If your family is considering attending a public school outside your home district, you will need to complete a Choice Transfer request prior to registering your student.
Nonresident student enrollment follows BISD Policy 3141, Nonresident Students.
The Office of the Superintendent of Public Instruction (OSPI) has created an online portal for parents to enter Choice Transfer requests. Access the Choice Transfer Request Portal, and from the Choice Transfer Request Portal, your request will be submitted to the School District of your choice electronically. As long as you attend the school/online program outside your home district, you will need to renew your Choice Transfer request every school year.
BISD Non-Resident Admission
Non-resident admission to BISD is based on the following:
All Choice Transfer Requests for non-resident attendance will be considered equally on a fair, rational, and equitable basis pursuant to RCW 28A.225.225.
If your student is approved for a Choice Transfer, the parent/guardian must withdraw the student from their current school in preparation for transfer to their new district. A release of the student does not guarantee acceptance by another District. Parents assume full responsibility for transportation and supervision between the student's home and school of choice.
Once the request is received by our district, the electronic application will be submitted to the building for approval. Notification of admission status will be emailed as soon as possible, but no later than the end of August. All non-resident students who are currently enrolled as a Choice Transfer student, who have not gone through the application process by the end of the current school year (late June), will be withdrawn from Bainbridge Island School District and released back to their resident districts.
If you have any questions regarding this process, please call your student's school office or the BISD Student Records Office at (206) 780-1354, or send an email to choicetransfer@bisd303.org.
