BISD Take Home Device Information

Mission

The mission of the Take Home Device Initiative in the Bainbridge Island School District is to create a collaborative learning environment for all learners and increase access to learning resources. This environment supports students and teachers in the use of technology to enhance student learning and engagement in the classroom. It creates equity and levels the playing field for all learners by providing every student with a device (a Chromebook) to use both in school and at home.

We recommend students and guardians contact their school’s Building Technology Support Specialist for any support issues, or questions, or to report damage to the device.

NOTE: The content filter used in the district to block inappropriate internet content will be enforced when the Chromebook is used off-campus (for example when used at home, in the public library, or local coffee shop). The content filter will allow access to approved educational resources, such as G-Suite for Education, online textbooks, educational web-based tools, and many other useful websites.

Insurance Information

 

Student take home (1:1) Chromebooks come with a pre-installed protective shell. The protective shell should never be removed or replaced. Any accidental damage and repair costs incurred while the case is on will be covered by our third-party Device Protection Plan.

However, the following situations are NOT covered by the third-party provider and may result in a fine to the student:

  • Any INTENTIONAL DAMAGE with or without the protective casing (including damage caused by tampering) is not covered.
  • Any ACCIDENTAL DAMAGE any damage incurred at any time without the protective case/shell on device is not covered.
  • Any loss or theft of a device, case, or charger is not covered.
  • Any pet, animal, rodent or insect damage or infestation is not covered.

For these reasons, it is District policy that the protective shell MUST stay on the student Chromebooks at all times. Stickers are permitted but only on the protective shell!

With the Device Protection Plan, there is no need to purchase Chromebook insurance for these devices.
