Summer Chromebook Access

Update: August 24, 2026

Student Chromebooks are now re-enabled.

Still seeing the summer lock message? Make sure the Chromebook is connected to Wi-Fi: click the Wi-Fi/clock area in the lower right corner of the screen, then open the Wi-Fi menu and connect to a network.

To support student safety, protect district resources and reduce the need for device monitoring over the summer, student Chromebooks are temporarily disabled after the last day of school and reactivated when students return in the fall.

Who
Students in grades 6–12, and Odyssey students in grades 5–12, who take their district-issued Chromebook home for the summer.
What
District-issued Chromebooks are remotely locked for the summer.
Why
Student devices support learning during the school year. Because students aren’t under district supervision during summer break, devices are temporarily disabled until classes resume.
Timeline
Devices lock right after the last day of school and stay locked until the first day of classes for the 2026–27 school year.
Storage & Return
Keep the Chromebook in a safe place at home over the summer, and bring it back to school fully charged on the first day of classes.
Leaving the District
Contact the Technology Returns Department at 206-780-1668 to arrange a time to drop off technology equipment.
Exceptions
Students who need a district device for summer learning, including some students with IEPs and those in Extended School Year (ESY) or credit recovery programs, may be eligible for an exception. Request an exception.
