Bainbridge Island School District is proud to welcome Miranda Smallwood as the next principal of Woodward Middle School.
Miranda brings extensive experience in secondary education, including serving as principal of Kingston High School and in leadership roles within the Central Kitsap School District, as an assistant principal at both Ridgetop Middle School and Klahowya Secondary School. She is known for creating inclusive, student-centered environments where all students feel a strong sense of belonging and are supported in their growth.
Her leadership focuses on building systems that support both academic success and social-emotional development. She has led the implementation of Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS) and data-driven practices that have improved outcomes for students across academics, attendance, and behavior.
Miranda is also deeply committed to building authentic relationships with students, families, and the broader community. These partnerships, along with her commitment to restorative and inclusive practices, have strengthened relationships and helped build more equitable systems across school communities.
Superintendent Amii Thompson shared, “Miranda is a relational, student-centered leader who brings both heart and expertise to her work, and we are excited to have her join our district and the Woodward Middle School community.”
Miranda has strong personal connections to Bainbridge Island and looks forward to engaging with students, staff, and families in this new role. She is eager to continue building a school culture rooted in inclusion, partnership, and shared responsibility for student success.
