Strategic Plan

A shared roadmap for every student in the Bainbridge Island School District.
 

 

This three year plan is the result of a year-long process that brought together students, staff, families, community members, administrators, and school leaders to reflect on our strengths, examine district data, identify areas for growth, and define our priorities for the years ahead. Through surveys, focus groups, committee meetings, school visits, and student engagement activities, more than 1,000 students, 300 families and community members, and 150 staff members contributed their voices to this work.

Mission, Vision & Portrait of a Graduate

Belong. Engage. Thrive.  is the mission statement in the Bainbridge Island School District's strategic plan — the framework guiding our priorities and decisions in the years ahead.

The Bainbridge Island School District is rooted in community and committed to equity, dedicated to ensuring that all students:

  • feel safe, seen, and supported;
  • discover their unique strengths and talents; and
  • are equipped with knowledge, skills, and competencies to thrive in a rapidly changing global environment.

At BISD, our Portrait of a Graduate defines the core competencies, values, and mindsets we aim to instill in every student. This guides our work from early learning through high school graduation. A graduate of BISD:

  • Learns independently with confidence, resilience, and self-efficacy.
  • Thinks creatively and critically to examine multiple perspectives and uses evidence to inform decisions.
  • Acts with integrity, compassion, and empathy for others.
  • Recognizes and challenges bias, discrimination, and inequitable systems.
  • Communicates effectively to listen, collaborate, and advocate with respect.
  • Adapts to the future in preparation for post-high school endeavors such as college, career, and civic life.

  • Coming Fall 2026 – BISD will report regularly on the progress of all nine goals.  

  • Guided by the process theme "Many Voices, Shared Vision," the Strategic Planning Steering Committee reviewed more than 30 data sets, analyzed community feedback, and worked collaboratively to develop a plan that reflects the values, aspirations, and priorities of the Bainbridge Island community. The result is a roadmap focused on ensuring every student feels they belong, engages in meaningful learning, and thrives both in school and beyond.
