Counselor's Note

Dear Ordway Families,

Welcome to our new Ordway Otters and Welcome Back to those returning! My name is Janette Dodge and I feel fortunate to work as the elementary school counselor at Ordway. We are lucky on Bainbridge Island that all three elementary schools have full-time counselors. As counselors we do a variety of tasks including checking in with students individually, small group work, consultations with parents and teachers, advocating for students' academic needs, and overseeing the social-emotional curriculum.

This is the second year of our new social-emotional curriculum called Character Strong. Character Strong is an evidence-based multi-tiered social-emotional curriculum that supports the success of the whole child. Each month the classrooms learn and celebrate a theme that the whole school celebrates. During the first two weeks of school we have been focusing on Kindness and for the rest of the month we will be exploring Respect.

Please feel free to reach out by email or phone if you have any questions, concerns or are curious about resources. I am also at the front door greeting the students every morning so you are always welcome to introduce yourself there as well. I look forward to working with both students and their families; it’s going to be a great Ordway Otter year.

Sincerely,

Janette Dodge

BISD Preschool

Did you know BISD has a preschool at Blakely and Halilts? Our preschool is an excellent value and meets 4 days a week for 2.5 hours either in the AM or PM. We still have space for a few more students!

This newsletter has great tips for all families as they head back to school - the snack ideas alone make it worth a look!

Our preschools aim to provide a nurturing, culturally responsive environment for every student. With strong foundational skills for early learning success and kindergarten readiness, we empower young learners to develop critical thinking, social-emotional, and academic abilities for lifelong success through engaging experiences and personalized instruction.
