Here we are at the very end of October. As the air turns colder and the days grow noticeably shorter, I find myself continually grateful for the warmth and strength of our school community.
This week, our K-6 and Odyssey K-8 schools are hosting family conferences. I want to take a moment to sincerely thank you for your flexibility with the half-day schedules. I know that adjusting your own work lives and daily routines to accommodate these early releases is no small feat, and we truly appreciate you making it work. Sitting down together is such an integral part of creating a supportive learning and belonging environment for our students. The partnership between home and school is the foundation of their success, and we love having this dedicated time to connect with you.
For our families with older students in grades 7-12, you are right alongside us as we approach the mid-semester mark. Thank you for your steady encouragement at home as your students tackle rigorous coursework, discover new interests, and navigate their own paths forward in the world.
Whether you are helping a kindergartener learn to tie their shoes or helping a senior weigh their post-graduation options, parenting is heavy lifting. We are so lucky to partner with you in this work.
As a small silver lining to these darker fall evenings, don’t forget that Daylight Saving Time ends this Saturday night! When we turn our clocks back, I hope your family is able to slow down and thoroughly enjoy that extra, well-deserved hour of rest on Sunday morning. If you are parents to younger children, my apologies in advance, as I know that they do not get the Daylight Saving Time memo!
Take care,
Amii Thompson

As you may have noticed, we recently updated our school websites to replace direct staff email addresses with secure contact forms. This change was an important step to boost our cybersecurity and protect our school networks from phishing attacks.
Because this is a new process this year, we want to make sure you always know the best way to get in touch with us!
-
To reach a teacher directly: Please use the secure contact forms located on your school’s staff directory page.
-
If you aren't sure who to contact: You can always use the main email address listed at the very bottom of your school’s homepage. This email goes directly to our main office managers, who will make sure your message is quickly forwarded to the exact right person.
Thank you for your patience as we transition to this more secure system, and for your continued partnership!

Following up on our recent communication regarding the potential February 2027 Bond Measure, the School Board held a Special Study Session last night to continue these important discussions. The session featured comprehensive presentations on current enrollment trends, the district budget, and a facility update, alongside a detailed look at projected costs and the potential tax impact.
You can watch the recording and review the materials from last night's study session here.

BISD will be conducting a routine test of our emergency alert system on Tuesday, Nov. 10 at 5 p.m.
We use this system to quickly notify staff and families about weather-related closures and emergencies via phone, text, and email.
-
If you receive the "URGENT EMERGENCY TEST MESSAGE": No action is required. Your information is up to date.
-
If you DO NOT receive the message: Your contact details may be outdated. Please use the Parents/Guardians Instructions for Activating ParentSquare link to update your settings, or contact your school's office.
Thank you for helping us ensure our emergency communications are running smoothly this year.

Winter on Bainbridge Island is undeniably beautiful, but it definitely keeps us on our toes. Because of our unique microclimates and rolling hills, one school bus might be navigating icy switchbacks while another is driving under clear blue skies.
When it comes to making the tricky early-morning call for a “snow day” (or, more often, an “ice day”), student and staff safety is always our compass. Here is what our team carefully evaluates:
-
Transportation: Can our buses safely navigate steep, icy roads and tight turns starting as early as 6:25 a.m.?
-
Staff Commutes: Can our teachers and support staff—many of whom travel from off-island—make it to work safely?
-
Facilities: Can our maintenance crews thoroughly clear and de-ice walkways, stairs, and parking lots before students arrive?
We weigh all of these factors heavily—and often wish we had a crystal ball! Thank you for your continued grace and patience as we do our absolute best to keep everyone safe, warm, and informed.
Make Sure You Get the Call (or Text!) If you receive this newsletter, you are already registered in ParentSquare for our emergency alerts. The system will notify you based on your communication preferences, but it is also “smart” enough to trigger an automated phone call if your preferred method fails.

Support BHS Theatre students in this gender-bending, patriarch-smashing, hilarious new teen take on the classic tale. Robin Hood is (and has always been) Maid Marian in disguise, and leads a motley group of Merry Men (few of whom are actually men) against the greedy Prince John. As the poor get poorer and the rich get richer, who will stand for the vulnerable if not Robin? What is the cost of revealing your true self in a time of trouble? Come find out!
