Dear Sakai Families,
I hope you had a fun and relaxing weekend. It’s hard to believe, but after today, we only have 12 and a half days left and are busy preparing for the end-of-year events. June 20th will be our 6th-grade celebration. Look for more information from your homeroom teacher. On that day, we will also have 5th grade Field Day and will need A LOT of family volunteers. Please consider signing up to be a volunteer here.
6th grade students will be keeping their Chromebooks over the summer. This Chromebook will be theirs until 9th grade. If you would prefer not to have your student keep them for the summer, they are welcome to turn them in, and Ms. Brisbon will store them until the first day of school next fall (we will deliver to Woodward for you). 5th grade students will NOT keep their Chromebook over the summer. They will receive their new Chromebook next fall on the first day of school.
We have A LOT of items in our lost and found area. We have all the items put out in the hallway along the Japanese garden. Please have your students stop by to see if any of their belongings are there. They will be donated after school is out.
In alignment with our District Improvement Plan around Equity, I have been continuing with our unit on the power of words. Yesterday in COHO students built on previous lessons on ideas to disrupt and interrupt when their peers make comments that are rooted in stereotypes or discrimination. They created an anchor chart that can be used as a resource to create an inclusive and kind community. The Family Dare this week is to discuss this with your student.
I hope you have a wonderful week, Sakai!
Drew

WMS Summer Reading 2025-2026
Incoming 7th Graders
To encourage a love of reading, we invite all middle school students to read at least one to two books and participate in Kitsap Regional Library’s (KRL) Summer Learning program. Summer learning at KRL is a fun opportunity to discover new books, enjoy our local library, and participate in engaging summer activities. This summer reading is an opportunity for you to choose your own books.
- June 1st- Pick up a summer reading tracker in your English class, school library, or at the Bainbridge branch of Kitsap Regional Library. You can also sign up in class if a KRL librarian visits your ELA class or school library.
- Read 10 hours. Fiction, nonfiction, graphic novels, manga, ebooks all count for your hours.
- Bring your completed tracker to the Bainbridge KRL branch by August 31st to show that you have finished. We will take care of the rest! Turn in your tracker when you are done.
- You can pick out a free book if you read for 10 hours.
- If you read 10 hours and decide to read more for the 100 hours, bring your tracker in to be checked and turn it in when you are done. If you read 100 hours, you can get the free limited edition shirt.
At the end of summer, arrive at school with a list of the books you read. List the title and author for each one.

The Annual Back-to-school Check-in (ABC) process is now open. This annual process lets us know that your student(s) are returning to our schools for 2025-26 and allows parents/guardians to review annual information.
The ABCs must be completed* for all students attending BISD schools in 2025-26, including both new and returning students. Access the ABCs by logging into your Family Access account. It should take about 15 minutes (or less!) to complete.
If you need assistance with the ABC process (such as translation, accessing technology, or other questions), please get in touch with our office.
NOT RETURNING? If your current K-11th grade student is not returning to BISD schools next fall, please let our office know.
*Student class placement/class schedules will not be released in August until the ABCs are completed. But why delay? Go ahead and take care of it today!
