Courage Quote

Note from the Counselor

Dear Orca Families,

We are excited to focus on COURAGE this month as our PurposeFULL People character trait. One way to think about courage is, “choosing what is helpful, right, and kind even when it is hard or scary.” Courage can look a little different for everyone.

Explore as a family what courage means to you. Here is a “PurposeFull Pursuit” you can complete together! W

We have all demonstrated courage in our lives. Stories are powerful tools for connecting as a family. Protect time this week to share stories about courage with each other At the end of the conversation, think of 1 way you can practice courage this week. You can use these story prompts to get started.

● A time I (or someone else) showed courage was _____.
● An act of courage that changed/challenged me was _____.

I can't believe we are already in May. The next few weeks will be important to have students at school and on-time as we head into SBA testing. We couldn't do it without your help.

Enjoy the sunny weather!

The end of the year is quickly approaching. This newsletter and the PTO newsletter are the best ways to hear about how the PTO enriches your student's experience at Halilts and opportunities to be involved. Many hands make it more fun!

We need your help celebrating our staff. Don't miss the information below about Bike to School Day on May 16.

Let’s come together to show our amazing staff just how much they mean to us. Thanks for helping make this week extra special—they truly deserve it!
Recess Activity

Recess Activity - May 6

Volunteers Needed

Join us on Tuesday, May 6 for one of our last recess activities for the year!

Sign up to help HERE.

Approved volunteers will be helping our students make posters to celebrate our amazing staff, and then will share these with all of BISD! Thank you for joining in the celebration of our awesome staff!
Bike to School Day

Bike to School Day

x̌alilc will be celebrating Bike and Walk to School Day on Friday, May 16!

Join other families in celebrating the beautiful weather and practicing alternative ways to arrive at school that promote health and help the environment. So get outside, get out of your car, and get your kids off the bus for the day!

The PTO with some help from Squeaky Wheels is organizing this event!

Join a group:
Who: Riders will be students and adults
Where: Ted Olson Preserve or Port Madison Lutheran Church
When: May 16 rain or shine!
Where: Bikes will hit the road at 7:20 to allow everyone plenty of time to arrive at school!

We are looking for a few bike-riding, volunteer-approved adults to help lead the rides from each location--you can sign up HERE if interested!

Be sure to give your kiddo’s bike a safety check before the day of the ride: Check brakes, tires, and gears. Classic Cycles has used trade-in bikes and they are able to pump up tires and check helmets for right fit.

ABC Check-In

Help x̌alilc win the ABC Challenge!

We are making progress! 45% of x̌alilc families have responded! Help us reach 100%. This annual process lets us know that your student(s) are returning to our schools for 2025-26 and allows parents/guardians to review annual information.

The ABCs must be completed* for all students attending BISD schools in 2025-26, including both new and returning students. Access the ABCs by logging into your Family Access account. It should take about 15 minutes (or less!) to complete.

If you need assistance with the ABC process (such as translation, accessing technology, or other questions), please get in touch with Sheila Jakubik, at sjakubik@bisd303.org or call 206-780-3010.

NOT RETURNING? If your student is not returning to BISD schools next fall, please email office manager, Sheila Jakubik, at sjakubik@bisd303.org or call 206-780-3010.

*Student class placement/class schedules will not be released in August until the ABCs are completed. But why delay? Go ahead and take care of it today!
