x̌alilc November Attendance

Your student's attendance is one of the most impactful ways to support learning. Being at school every day (and on-time) helps students feel successful and less anxious, as well as feeling connected with their peers, their teachers and school routines. While our overall attendance rate for the year is a strong 94%, November has been our lowest month so far at 92% (compared to 96% in September). Winter often brings more challenges with weather and illness, so this is a great time to refocus on strong attendance habits.

Regular attendance sets students up for long-term success! Children who come to school consistently are more likely to stay on track academically, develop positive relationships, and build confidence in the classroom. Missing even a couple of days each month—or frequent tardies—can add up quickly and make it harder for students to keep pace with new learning.

Illness and unexpected situations arise, and students should stay home when they are truly unwell. When possible, though, helping your child maintain steady attendance makes a significant difference.

If your child is reluctant to come to school or you have any concerns, please reach out. We are here to partner with you and support your child’s success in every way we can.

Thanks to everyone who donated to the Helpline Food Drive. It was a huge success - we took two carloads of food!

No PTO meeting this month. We hope to see you on Friday, January 9 for our next meeting.

Library Volunteers

December Library Volunteers

Every month we schedule volunteers to help in the library! We do this so that if you love volunteering you can come or if you are looking to try something out you can just sign-up once!

Volunteering is a wonderful way to connect with students and support a love of reading. Classrooms that have requested support are listed in the Sign-up Genius. All volunteers must be an Approved BISD Volunteer.

Thank you for supporting our readers and keeping our library a vibrant place for learning!

We’re putting together a cozy Hot Beverage Bar for our staff, along with some small tokens of appreciation for our amazing support staff. If you’d like to contribute, please consider sending an item from our wishlist to arrive by 12/11.

Thank you for helping make this appreciation event extra special!

❄️ December: Finish the Year Strong ❄️

As we move from fall into winter, December is a time to keep our routines steady and finish the calendar year strong. With the holiday season and shorter daylight hours, it’s easy for schedules to get busy — but staying connected and showing up each day helps students maintain their learning momentum.

We also know that life happens — winter colds, darker mornings, and busy family schedules can make it harder to get to school. Please reach out if your family is facing challenges such as transportation, illness, anxiety, or other stressors. We have caring staff, community partners, and resources ready to support you.

Together, let’s make this final stretch of 2025 a time of connection, consistency, and growth for every student.

Inclement Weather Information

As part of our ongoing efforts to keep students and staff safe during winter weather, BISD is introducing a three-hour delay option for school start times. BISD now has the flexibility to start school two or three hours late when winter weather impacts travel conditions.

This additional delay provides more flexibility on Tuesdays through Fridays, allowing extra time for roads to be cleared and for everyone to travel safely to school.

Our team has been working hard behind the scenes to make this a viable option on snow and ice days—ensuring that schedules, transportation, and meals are all ready to go when the weather requires extra flexibility.

How to calculate your school start time:
  • two-hour delay means you’ll add two hours to your regular start time.
  • three-hour delay means you’ll add three hours to your regular start time.
  • End times will remain the same—the school day will still end at the usual time.

Bus transportation:
  • If BISD announces buses are on snow routes - check the transportation page on our BISD website.
  • If buses are running on regular routes, add 2 or 3 hours to your usual pickup time based on the delay.

Thank you for your patience and understanding as we navigate winter weather together. Our goal is always the same: to get everyone to school safely.
