Principal's Message

Dear Sakai Families,

I hope you had a restful and joy-filled Thanksgiving. My family spent time together hiking, puzzling, and playing pickleball. It was a very relaxing and recharging for us all.

The next few weeks will feel very busy at Sakai as we finish out the calendar year. This time of year always seems to fly by at school. A quick reminder that we are going outside for recess every day. Students should have appropriate attire for the weather. On that note, now is also a good time to remind your child to check our Lost and Found. We have A LOT of found clothes and water bottles. We will be donating items left over break.

We are collecting unopened toys for the Toys for Tots program. Students have been informed of this on the broadcast, and there is a box in our office for donations. Please consider donating.

In alignment with our current District Improvement Plan on Equity, Ms. Watson, our school counselor, and I have been delivering a series of mini-lessons to students on the broadcast about the power of words. We have focused on the impact of labels and stereotypes and how those can lead to discriminatory language. Yesterday, students built on previous lessons to explore ways to have courageous conversations with their peers when comments that are rooted in stereotypes or discrimination are made. Some classes created a pocket guide to use as a resource to create an inclusive and kind community. The Family Dare this week is to discuss these lessons with your student. As always, please reach out to me with any questions that you may have.

Have a wonderful week, Sakai!

Game Room Volunteers for December/January/February
As the weather gets colder and a little less outdoor-recess-y, our awesome Sakai staff would like to provide a game room alternative during lunch recess! Game Room will be available during recess on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays. We would love one parent volunteer to supervise each of these. Please sign up for the available slots if you are able.

Please remember that all volunteers who help in the classroom, on field trips, and other various activities must be cleared by the district: Volunteering with BISD. The approval process can take up to two weeks. Once approved, you are ready to volunteer and your approval is valid for two years.

Please bring your driver's license or id each time you sign into any school in the district.

Recess Equipment Wishlist

If you have any gently used soccer or basketballs you’d like to donate, please consider donating them to Sakai. We could really use a few more for recess. You may drop them off in the office.

Thanks so much!
