First Aid/CPR Classes

Four (4) opportunities will be offered during the school year to district employees, volunteer coaches for school-sponsored sports teams, bus drivers, and substitutes on a space-available basis.  All four offerings will be delivered with a blended learning/online format.

Each of the four (4) course opportunities will include two parts.  Part 1 will be completed online.  It will include the required cognitive lessons, will take from 2 to 3 hours to complete, and can be done in one or many sessions anytime/anywhere with computer access.  Part 2 will be comprised of 1-2 hours in-person with hands-on instructor-led practice and skills testing. We hope the benefits to you by offering the course this way will be the flexibility and convenience it will provide and the consistent and up-to-the-minute content it will deliver.  All classes below will be held at the Bainbridge Island Fire Department (8895 Madison Ave. NE) and will be limited to no more than 8 participants/session:

Registration for each class will open approximately 30 days prior to the class date and will be communicated via email to all staff.

The above sessions will provide ASHI Blended CPR-AED and Basic First Aid for the Community & Workplace.

 

Course Description:

Using a combination of online learning and testing, coupled with onsite skill practice, students will master necessary skills for the administration of CPR AED and First Aid for adults, children, and infants. They will learn how to recognize a life-threatening emergency, how to provide basic life support using CPR skills and an AED Trainer to help with recognition of an unresponsive victim, review of equipment operation and discuss treatment and valuable hands-on practice to increase skill and what to do in the case of an airway obstruction or choking.  First Aid training helps participants learn to recognize the signs and symptoms of injuries and sudden illness. Crucial information about how to deal with emergencies like wound care, shock, burns, diabetic emergencies, strokes and seizures is taught online and skills are practiced in realistic settings utilizing actual manikin scenarios involving bleeding, wounds, bleeding control and bandaging and practice using personal protective equipment.  Proper positioning and moving techniques are practiced to ensure care for the protection and monitoring of the essential priorities, airway, breathing and circulation.

  • This program was reviewed by and meets the guidelines of the Occupational Safety & Health Administration and the Department of Transportation.
  • The American Safety & Health Institute CPR Programs are based upon the most recent guidelines for cardiopulmonary resuscitation and emergency cardiac care.

  • Upon completion, a First-Aid/CPR card, valid for two years, will be issued.
  • Certificated staff, school-sponsored sports team coaches, and transportation employees will be given first priority in the registration process.
  • Clock hours will only be offered upon course completion for those employees whose job descriptions require CPR/First Aid Training/Certification and only if the CPR Training occurs outside of regular working hours.
